An Umrah trip involves several records that must agree with one another. Your name on the flight ticket should match your passport, your accommodation must cover the intended stay, and your vaccination certificate needs the correct identifying details. A small discrepancy can hold up the whole application.

This is where people get it wrong: they pay for flights first and only later discover that their passport is too close to expiry or that they are using the wrong visa category. 5. Have you set up Nusuk correctly?

Nusuk is used for important parts of Umrah planning, including services, permits and bookings where applicable. Download the genuine app from the official app store and register using the same passport and contact details used for the visa. Enter numbers carefully; one wrong digit can make it difficult to retrieve a booking later.

Complete registration well before departure, but expect app functions and permit arrangements to change. Tawakkalna or another official Saudi service may also be relevant depending on current health and access procedures. Follow the instructions issued for your visa rather than copying screenshots from an old social-media post.

Take screenshots of confirmed permits and booking references, but refresh them if the app states that a live code is required. Save your hotel’s Arabic address too. Drivers may recognise a landmark more readily than an English hotel name, and several Makkah properties have very similar names.

6. What should your travel insurance cover?

Medical insurance is generally included with, or required for, the Saudi visa process. Read the policy rather than assuming every expense is covered. Check emergency treatment, hospital admission, medication, repatriation and exclusions for existing medical conditions. The original visa guidance may refer to cover of up to SAR 100,000, but the policy issued with your application is the document that matters.

Older pilgrims and anyone managing diabetes, heart conditions or mobility problems should carry a medicine list and a brief medical summary. Pack prescriptions in original packaging, split essential medicine between cabin bags where appropriate, and bring enough for delays. Insurance is useful, but it does not replace sensible preparation.

When should you submit the application?

Aim to have your documents ready several weeks before travel. Processing may take around 5–10 days in straightforward cases, but peak periods, additional checks and public holidays can extend that. Do not treat an estimated processing time as a promise.

What should you do after the visa is approved?

Read the visa carefully. Check every name, passport number, entry window and length of stay. Print two copies and store digital copies on your phone and in cloud storage. Give one set of the itinerary to a relative at home.

Confirm airport transfers and establish exactly where the driver will meet you. Jeddah’s terminals are large, and “outside arrivals” is not a useful meeting instruction. Pack light enough to manage your own luggage. Hotel lifts become crowded around prayer times, and large suitcases are awkward on trains and coaches. A small day bag should hold water, unscented toiletries, comfortable footwear, a shoe bag, medication, a power bank and copies of your documents.
